Google Analitycs, my old buddy, i used this tool for every website i created because of it's accuracy and its complex structure and now i can get to see it transformed again, but is it in good?
"What theee" , those were my first words when i logged in. Google completely redesigned their tool with more simple and cool flash scripts that make the new interface look like heaven. I dont have enough pages to talk about all the changes that were made but i will tip you about the major changes and if they are useful, therefore let's begin.
First Impression, Confusion or Just like Home?
Well as much i like Google Analitycs, i have to say that the first impression was wow it's awesome but how do i use it? , but i guess that's normal it's completely redesigned.
It takes about 5 minutes to understand the new way to use it, where to look, how to obtain your visitors details and another 5 minutes to get used to the new organized space.
But it's all good, as soon as you get used to it all it's simpler.
Default Details, better?
Unlike the last version of Analitycs the new Beta gives you as a default the last 30 days, on a new shiny graphic that allows you to mouse over on some periods and receive details about the number of visits.
On the right a Map Overlay which is very easy to use and gives you another mouse over option for continents, zoom in the continent, the state or country, the city, this visitor zooming utility is very well represented with colors to see the "hot" regions for your site, again with flash.
At the bottom, there is another important overview as a default, which let's you see the most visited articles in the selected period(in the old version you had to click View by Content, so 1 click less now). Another useful thing if you want to know how your traffic is divided is a box that shows you the source overview based on:
1.Referring Sites
2.Search Engines
3.Direct
Improvements, are they or are they not?
They sure are my smart friends, for example now you can select the exact portion of time you want to check out using the date selector. You click on the date located on the right and a menu will appear, here you select "timeline"(i recommend for pin-point selection) or "calendar"(for months or certain days), you then click "apply changes" and you're in business.
Another thing that's been made easy is finding the number of visits that you have from the search engines, click the Traffic Sources then click Search Engines and you have the top search engines that brought you traffic.
These were the things i wanted to remark about this update to Google Analitycs, the rest are yours to discover, i hope i made you courious in case you didn't use Google Analitycs until now, by the way the update to the new Analitycs version is done by google automatically and you have the option to revert to the old version.
Many things changed, many improved and some are completely new, i leave you the pleasure to discover the new Google Analitycs in it's full, which is truly a better new version.
